our team arent short of helpers in the garden!

Today we learnt about how to take care of the earth so that the earth can take care of us. We learnt how to look after natural resources like soil and water through composting and mulching our bare soils with hay. This helps to slow the flow of water preventing soil erosion, allowing the water to sink slowly into the soil where the plant can use it. What I found particularly interesting was the experiment we did to test different soils for organic material. Pouring hydrogen peroxide into sand and then loamy soil, the hydrogen peroxide reacted with the organic material in the loamy soil to form a bubbly froth. The kids loved it!!
