Our food garden has be designed using permaculture principles. The benefit of this is that 10 years since we started we still have a thriving vege garden. The Green buddies as well as many of our class learners have learned the benefits of using nature as your gardening tool. The Green buddies know that using chemically produced fertilisers and pesticides is costly, destroys the soil and the biodiversity and ends up polluting and wasting lots of water too. We have our own worm farm that produces lots of natural nutrient rich tea., we use this in solution for our gardens and can also be sprayed on the plants as a deterrant of bad insects. We generally dont have problem with insects in our gradens and we intercrop with herbs and plants such as basil, marigolds and chillis which many insects dont like the smell of. But these plants also attract the good insects which help to pollinate our garden!!
